Reading & Writing Stories

In this course we will read together and talk and write about short stories, many of them by and about teenagers. We will write our own stories on similar themes and share them with the class if we want to. We will learn and talk about elements of the short story such as setting, plot, theme, characterization, point of view, tone, symbolism, foreshadowing, dialogue, and conflict/resolution.

This course will meet the Minnesota State Standard:

Elements of Composition: The student will engage in the writing process with attention to audience, organization, focus, quality of ideas and a purpose.
